Companion Animals

The value of pets for our elders

The human-animal bond is a mutually beneficial dynamic relationship between people and their pets that positively influences the health and well-being of both.

Pets owners have been shown to have higher survival rates following heart attacks as well as lower rates of cardiac disease.  People who own pets usually have greater motivation to move around and get some degree of exercise with their animals, which increases their overall health.  The benefits of owning a pet extend beyond just the physical: the affection and companionship that pets provide their owners offer emotional antidotes for loneliness.

Pet owners who can stay with their animals in their homes live happier, more content lives.
