Welcome to Bringing Parents Home. We are here to help you with the transition of bringing your elderly parents into your home.
A resource for caregivers & families

When transporting your parent you will have to consider a few issues with the

vehicle. Does the door open wide and have hand support areas easily accessible. Is

the seat height at the right level to make entering and exiting easy and convenient. Is

there a lip or edge of the entrance that they have to lift their legs over? Often times

once sitting on the seat (facing out of the vehicle) and swinging the legs into the

vehicle you or they may have to lift their legs manually and one at a time to make

the transition. Is there available space for transporting the walking aid? Is it easy to

fasten and remove the seatbelt? If you have a trailer hitch on your vehicle you can

use a hitch basket to hold a wheelchair if space is an issue with your vehicle.
